Jake D. · Yelp

“Stubborn Goat Bike Shop and Ski Service is the only place I can find quality workmanship and fast service for ski/board equipment in San Diego…best place to start my mountain adventures. Sam, the owner, is awesome; can't get any more professional or friendly. Products are unique and good quality!!”

Shealey I. · Yelp

“Great place. Needed skis tuned and waxed — unfortunately it's very hard to find ski shops here. Quick 2-day turnaround and excellent job. Will bring other equipment as needed.”

Craig L. · Yelp

“Thank you so much to Sam for an absolutely outstanding job and customer service. This is absolutely the best place to take your ski to have done anything. Highly professional, knowledgeable, and prices are very reasonable. Sam will do above and beyond. Very pleasant and honest.”

m d. · Yelp

“We called to see if they could custom fit our new ski boots. We were told yes, come on down and we'll take care of it — and the service was free! We met Sam and he greeted us with a smile, was very knowledgeable, and got to work.”

SD Lion L. · Yelp

“I come here for all my skiing needs: waxing, tuning, bindings. These guys are pros, work fast, care about the work they do, and have very reasonable prices. Excellent shop, very highly recommend.”

Mark H. · Yelp

“They did a great job hustling through to get my skis edged and waxed to go to Whistler on short notice. They felt great skiing and not a bad price.”

Andrew B. · Yelp

“Did a great job waxing my snowboard and setting up the bindings. Super happy with their pricing and work.”

Kristi N. · Yelp

Mary B. · Yelp

“Best place to bring your snowboard. They do great work and the turnaround time is quick. Easy parking in the back as well.”

Dan G. · Yelp

“The owner is so cool and professional, also fun to talk to — and he might provide the cheapest price for a snowboard wax or set up. Thank you!”

John K. · Yelp

“They are very prompt at taking care of my snowboard tune-up. I've taken my stuff there a few times and every time they are fast and wonderful.”

Jenifer A. · Yelp

“Staff are very friendly and helpful and know what they're talking about. My snowboard was in pretty bad shape when I brought it in and they put some life back in it. Great service for a fair price.”

Justin R. · Yelp

“I've brought my snowboard here for waxing and had excellent service every time — this is why I love small businesses! Quick service and a good price, what more can you ask?”

Ivy G. · Yelp

“Dropped my snowboard off for a tune on Friday, got a text it was ready for pickup on Saturday! Very reasonable prices and much easier to have it done ahead of time versus at the mountain. Will definitely be back.”

Chelsea K. · Yelp

“Great shop! They did a great job tuning my snowboard. Called them first to ask about all their services and the staff was super knowledgeable.”

Dani S. · Yelp

“Seems like a great shop! I recently purchased my first snowboard — a used one — and wanted to get it hot waxed and checked over. Was looking for a shop to educate me a bit, and they delivered.”

Oscar F. · Yelp

“I had my snowboard tuned here and they did a fantastic job. Normally I don't notice much about a tune, but this one gave me a great ride and better control. Since there aren't many places in sunny San Diego to get a tune, this is a great find!”

Richard S. · Yelp

“My favorite spot for a snowboard wax. I used to go all the way to REI until I found this shop in my neighborhood. Love supporting small shops — my board is always done in 24–48 hours. Awesome!”

Amber F. · Yelp

“Took my beat-up snowboard in to get a wax. It was in deep need of some TLC — my edges were dull and grimy. This place was so friendly and fast! I highly recommend and would return for another hand wax.”

Deanna P. · Yelp

“Finally a place to get your board waxed and tuned up without driving out to north county! Sam did a great job in a very quick turnaround. He even tightened my bindings as they seem to always loosen up. Highly recommend.”

Melody T. · Yelp

“Clean, wax, buff, edges — snowboard tune-up packages with fair pricing and quick turnaround.”

Jane A. · Yelp

“I've been taking my snowboard here for high-performance waxing for the last two years and these guys are great. I recently got a really bad gouge on the rail of my board that looked tough to fix — they did such a great job I couldn't even tell it was there.”

Justin M. · Yelp

“A good and reasonably priced snowboard service shop is becoming more difficult to find here in San Diego. I found Stubborn Goat on Yelp and decided to give it a try based on its positive reviews.”

Yung K. · Yelp

“I am not someone who would typically leave a review for a snowboard tune-up; however, after what I experienced following a wax and edging from Stubborn Goat, I feel compelled to tell the kind folk of San Diego what a wonderful job they did.”

Chad B. · Yelp

“Great personalized customer service. Quick turnaround to wax and sharpen snowboards.”

Ed-Rosie B. · Yelp

“Awesome place to bring your skis and snowboards! Extremely helpful staff with waxing or any other needs.”

RS1 Race Wax Upgrade — Upgrade Any Tune to the RS1 Premium Race Wax, a Faster-Gliding Wax, for Only $5

Package 01
Belt Wax
$10

An easy-on-the-wallet alternative to hot waxing. It doesn't penetrate the base or last nearly as long, but it's there when you need a quick refresh. (Not eligible for the RS1 race wax upgrade.)

  • Machine-applied wax
Package 02
Hot Hand Wax
$25

Baked in with our infrared waxing machine — the same tech the pros use — so it soaks in deep for a longer-lasting, faster glide. From there, it's all hand work: we scrape and buff every piece until the base is slicker than a greased pig.

  • Hot wax
Package 03
Basic Tune
$40

Hot wax plus edge sharpening. Our pros dial in a precise razor edge without grinding away more metal than needed, which only weakens it over time. Our machine is checked constantly for calibration, so every edge comes back sharp, accurate, and ready for high-G turns.

  • Hot wax
  • Edge tune
Package 04
Performance Tune
$90

Hot wax, edge sharpening, and a base grind — three belts (80, 100, and 120 grit) flatten the base, then a final tanzanite belt lays down light structure for a silky-smooth glide. We're mindful about how much material we remove, and we never grind a base that's already too thin.

Other Services & Pricing

Edge tune Stand-alone, not part of a package. Our seasoned pros dial in a true razor edge, precise and clean, without grinding away more metal than needed — that only weakens it over time. Our machine is checked constantly for calibration, so every edge comes back sharp, accurate, and ready for high-G turns. $15
Base grind Stand-alone, not part of a package. Our seasoned techs run a series of three belts — 80, 100, and 120 grit — to flatten the base, then finish with a final tanzanite belt that lays down light structure for a silky-smooth glide. We're mindful about how much material we remove, and we never grind a base that's already too thin. $50
Snowboard binding mount We'll help dial in your stance — regular or goofy, width, and angles — then mount and torque everything to spec. $15
Integrated ski binding mount Bindings are fit to your ski's track system, adjusted to boot sole length, the DIN is set, and bindings are function tested to ensure proper release. $40
Traditional ski binding mount Drilled and mounted to your boot sole length, torqued to spec, the DIN is set, and bindings are function tested to ensure proper release. $80
Ski binding remount We remove the old bindings, plug and seal the old holes against moisture, then re-drill — placing every new hole at least 1cm clear of any old one. From there, we remount the bindings, set the DIN, and run the function test. Skis can be remounted up to 3 times. $100
Function test We check that your boots fit the bindings properly and that forward pressure is set correctly, then set the DIN based on your height, weight, skier type, and boot sole length. From there, we test the equipment to confirm your bindings release exactly when they should — not too early, not too late — adjusting as needed if anything falls outside spec. $25
Base repair P-tex, base weld, base patch, or bonded base repair — for core shots, gouges, and rock strikes, repaired and blended flush with the base. Free quote at drop-off
Top sheet repair The top sheet is repaired and sealed against moisture, preventing core material deterioration. Free quote at drop-off
Heli-Coil insert When a screw or binding pulls out, we repair the hole with a threaded insert — bringing the mount back to its original strength. $15/insert

How We Patch a Base

A base patch is one way we repair a large core shot — here's what it looks like start to finish.

Step 1
Assess & Prep
Assess & Prep

We take a close look at the damage and prep the area before work begins.

Step 2
Remove the Damage
Remove the Damage

The damaged base material is cut away cleanly, leaving a solid surface for the patch to bond to.

Step 3
Cut the Patch
Cut the Patch

A patch is cut and shaped to match the void exactly.

Step 4
Bond & Clamp
Bond & Clamp

The patch is set with a slow-cure epoxy resin and clamped down tight while it bonds.

Step 5
Level & Finish
Level & Finish

The patch is painstakingly leveled flush with the base for a bomb-proof repair.

How We Weld a Base

A P-tex weld is how we fix a deep gouge that's too big for a simple base fill — here's what it looks like start to finish.

Step 1
Prep the Gouge
Prep the Gouge

We cut out the damaged material, bevel the edges, and clean the area thoroughly — then warm the surface with a heat gun before welding.

Step 2
Melt & Fill
Melt & Fill

We apply a metal-grip primer to the edge surface, then fire up the base welder and weld in new P-tex material.

Step 3
Scrape & Blend
Scrape & Blend

This is the difficult, time-consuming step — we patiently remove all the excess material by hand with a metal scraper and a planer, then finish it off on the base grinder.

Step 4
Edge & Wax
Edge & Wax

The final step in finishing up the tune — a fresh edge and a full wax so it's ready to ride.
